Checking your hard drive for problems |
I just posted this on mylot and figured I would post this here also
Bad clusters and be fixed by running an old dos program called
chkdsk
This program will check your hard drive and report to you any problems that you might have on it. this can be run in read only mode and will not change anything. Now if the the program finds a problem it will report it to you. To fix the problem you will need to add a few items to the command line. and it should look like this
chkdsk /f/r
This is fix and replace. you will need to reboot your computer and let the program run at boot up this should take care of any problems. Now the time will take has to items to look at and that is the size of your hard drive, and the number of problems that it is fixing. Ohh I am not sure if this works on Vista yet it does work on XP and older Microsoft operating systems.
Ohh also back up your hard drive before running this program!!!!!
